And so, as the day drew toward evening, and the bright May sun sailed westwards outside, surrounded by images of the Gods, Inkubus Sukkubus took to the stage to round off the day's events. In honour of Beltaine, Candia wore her own wedding dress, beautiful, simple, and stunningly elegant.
As I was further back from the stage than usual, flash photography was out, however as the sun set the lighting in the hall was also dimmed, resulting in these rather nice shots of Candia as the "Spirit of Dawning Summer".
The set was the now-standard "Wytches" one, opening with the souped-up 2002 remix of their classic album's title track. It was a bit surreal to hear and see them blasting through this while the audience remained politely seated, instead of crushing down to the front of the stage! It was several tracks into the set before people actually started dancing, indeed I felt a little guilty hiding up on the balcony (for photographic reasons) instead of cheering from the front! However, as the enthusiastic applause that followed each track showed, the audience was certainly enjoying the show. We also had various of the musicians who'd accompanied the parade joining in enthusiasticly on percussion at the back of the hall. |

Unfortunately, the hall's PA rig wasn't really up to the job, which meant that unless you were directly in front of the stage, the sound was very badly out of balance, especially Candia's lovely voice. So if anyone reading this was in the balcony audience and thought they sounded a bit off, it was down to the poor equipment provided by the organisers. Nevertheless, as they played on delivering their usual full-on performance, the sheer energy they put into the performance somehow seemed to compensate for the defective sound rig, and people at last began to dance in the clear space between the stage and stalls seating.

After the first five tracks or so, the crowd was really starting to move, and I went downstairs to join them! |

The main set ended with "Paint It Black", needless to say the crowd called them back for an encore, and so we had Vampyre Kiss and Leveller to round things off. And so a fantastic day finaly ended.
After the gig, the band came back out to sign autographs and chat to the fans while they packed up their equipment.
