Once the interview was over and a few more fans had got pictures of the band, we all retired to the dressing room to relax and see about that bottle of Jagermeister. Shortly afterwards, we discovered that one of the other bands was giving the organisers grief about their dressing room being too small, so as we's planned to head into town later on anyway, we loaded all the gear, and the rider, into one of the handy taxi-vans, and decamped back to the hotel, leaving our room free for re-use. Gear safely stowed in Adam's room, we got the same van back into town and to another of the Summer Darkness venues, the Boothill Saloon.
All too soon it was time to head back to the hotel for the night, though not till I'd noted down several new tracks to play at the club back home, courtesy of the Boothill's absolutely superb DJ. We rode back courtesy of a very helpful local taxi driver, seen in the last picture above. One of the great things about being in Utrecht was how incredibly friendly absolutely everyone was. Definetly a place I'd happily visit again.
Of course, having got back to the hotel in the middle of the night, now was the time to do some exploring!
After another hour or so spent relaxing on the ground-level balcony of Tony and Candia's room, sipping Jagermeister and enjoying the peace and tranquility of the Dutch night, we decided to go for a little wander in the cool night air. Outside the hotel was a major main road, quiet at this time of night, and beyond that were some very inviting looking fields...
On a dark grassy farm-track
Dutch wind in my hair
The soft sound of moo-ing
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in the cowshed
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I needed milk for the night...
With apologies to The Eagles!
We stayed in the cowshed, talking softly to the residents, for a while. Precisely what was said, what dark secrets were laid before the night, I cannot now remember, but strange to tell, the whole thing was almost as magical as it was surreal!
Back at the hotel, time for a quick exploration of the underground corridor which connected the two buildings together. And then at some point, I finally returned to my room and sank into a deep, dreamless sleep.
